Michelle Sáenz Burrola (1992)
Michelle is a visual and performing artist close to an expanded choreography practice. Her work departs from a performative approach that permeates various media, such as: video, sculpture, drawing, and text, which are articulated through installations, performances, stage works, and publications. She is interested in gestures and everyday objects as material. Her projects are typically long-term and aim to make processes visible. Currently, she explores elements of Western cartography and their repercussions on the body, as well as the possibilities of questioning and destabilizing them through sensitive experience. She also works within libraries to establish connections between body, book, and space. At the same time, she enjoys learning about what other artists are doing and writing about it.
She studied Visual Arts at ENPEG La Esmeralda in Mexico City, including an exchange program at l’école de recherche graphique in Brussels. In 2020, she completed her master’s degree in Performing Arts at the Iceland University of the Arts in Reykjavík. Since 2016, she has presented her work at spaces such as the Centro Cultural de España, Museo Jumex, Casa del Lago, Museo Carrillo Gil, Museo Cabañas, Biquini Wax, Quiñonera, and Nohacernada.org (Mexico). She has collaborated on projects and workshops with Zeppelin University alongside documenta15 (Germany), KiHO-OpenForum (Norway), Hafnarborg Museum (Iceland), and Revista Bloque (Mexico). She was a research artist-in-residence at the Newberry Library (United States) and the Anahuacalli Museum (Mexico). During 2026, she received a grant from the Mexican program Jóvenes Creadores in Medio Alterniativos y Performance.
